2019 is here! I’m back, and here’s a new recipe. All in one run-on sentence. Not really. Thanks for clicking over! I know I said I’d have this up earlier, but #momlife. Now that mes enfants are asleep, I can blog. So 2019 is here, and I’m once again starting a program. Again. My delusions of grandeur and actually working out over Christmas-New Year week obviously were pipe dreams and didn’t happen. BUT I did not gain any weight that week, so my gains of my Week 1 attempt were not for naught. Tomorrow is my final workout for the week, and marks a completeRead More →

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope you had a great week! Time for some honesty here.  I have done 2 of my 5 workouts so far this week.  I’m going to get my 3rd one in later this morning, but I wanted to share with you first.  Firstly, I am SORE.  Like, I haven’t been this sore in FOREVER.  Monday was Leg Day, and today Friday, I’m finally only minimally sore going up and down the stairs.  I don’t feel like I did anything crazy as far as the workout went, and weights were very light, but it was work.  More work than it should haveRead More →

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  How are you going to love yourself? Did you know that having a regular exercise routine can help you love yourself more?  The benefits of the endorphin rush are more than physical–they have a powerful emotional impact too. You feel accomplished–nothing like overcoming a challenge! Is there a time when you completed something you never thought you would?  I remember finishing my first half-marathon, my first 10 mile run, my first 5 mile run…heck, even completing my first 1 mile run!!  Competing in my first figure show was a huge accomplishment–getting that lean was a big deal forRead More →

Why is weightlifting beneficial to women?  I could go on and on and on about this, since the topic is near and dear to my heart.  I won’t bore you with EVERYTHING, but I DO want to hit some highlights. First, however, I do want to start with something that drives me CRAZY.  Lifting weights will NOT make a woman look more manly.  Weightlifting for health, and in general, does NOT heap muscle on a body.  That takes dedication, a very specific nutrition plan, and in many cases some chemical help. Secondly, you have to lift HEAVY to really build muscle.  Moms, do you carryRead More →

Oh my goodness.  It’s August.  August 7, to be exact.  July flew by! So I did start Shift Shop.  I did a couple days of it.  I didn’t feel like I connected with it, although I did feel like it was a great workout (I was sore the next day!).  It’s a great workout to move from move to move, from one exercise to the next, to the next, to the next…..  Definitely check it out! (30 day  money-back guarantee–you have NOTHING to lose except a few pounds 🙂 )  It’s part of BeachBody On Demand, so you only need wifi to get a greatRead More →

This month is stroke awareness month. We’ve seen the info graphics that tell the signs of stroke, and those are important, but I want to talk about stroke prevention. Strokes are commonly caused by atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Typically a stroke is an ischemic stroke, caused by a blood clot in the brain. You think of atherosclerosis and heart disease, and you should think of it with stroke too. Prevention of atherosclerosis is key, but you can also combat this disease with physical activity. Studies show how exercise increases elasticity of the blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and helps lower cholesterol. Exercise isRead More →

Here for the next few days while Hubby is here for a seminar.  It’s nice to be back in the Windy City for a visit, even if it is f-ing cold outside.  Our room is pretty cool, because it looks east to downtown, and we can see the skyline.  The last time we stayed in Chicago (besides our stopover on our move from Colorado to Pennsylvania) was when we ran the Chi Town Half Marathon in April 2012.  That was awesome, running around Lincoln Park, staying at the Hotel Lincoln, partying sans enfant downtown.  The fun part about being back is having our daughter with us.Read More →
