July is well upon us.  Where did the time go?  My first half of the year goal was accomplished, holiday has been celebrated, now it’s time to set a new goal.

My first half goal was my half marathon.  I did complete it, beating my goal time by 3 minutes, and finishing with my daughter, which made me so happy and as she started running with me I totally didn’t care anymore about my time.  Running with her, and seeing her sense of wonder as we crossed the finish line, was so cool and something I want to do with her over and over again.  While I didn’t get as much training as I would have liked to–or intended to–I still trained for 6 months, was able to get my endurance up to a level I never imagined: running 3 miles is a good warm up, 5-6 is where I start to hit a wall, but I can push through to mile 11 and finish up 13 in under 2.5 hours.  My next goal for my next half marathon (no date yet–no time soon though) is a 2 hour time (+/- 10 min).  Part of getting to that goal is to consistently do all of my workouts.  I feel like my plan was right on, I just need to stick to it better.  I did not make my goal weight, but I feel like that’s because I focused more on my endurance and runs towards the end (steady state cardio) than on my cross-training and HIIT.  More on that in a different post.

So what are my goals for the rest of the year?  That’s a good question.  First and foremost, to be consistent in a routine.  I need to pick a program, stick with it, and complete it.  I want to build muscle, and have a goal of exchanging 15-20lbs of fat for muscle.  This goal I’ve been dreaming for too many years now.  I CAN achieve it–I have to concertedly work toward it.  That being said, I feel like it’s a good goal to work toward now.   How am I going to get there?

I have a few options I’m considering.  I definitely want to do more weight lifting.  Moving the iron, increasing weights and feeling strong is such an incredible feeling–and why I got involved in fitness to begin with, almost 10 years ago.  (And writing that, I definitely feel like I have to make up for that!!)  It will take more planning, a couple more pieces of equipment for my home (chin-up bar and chin up max), but something that is definitely doable.  Either Body Beast or Hammer & Chisel are options, and something I haven’t done before in their entirety.  Or completing Insanity Max 30–because I do love me some Shaun T and Insanity is an INCREDIBLE program and definitely one of my soul-mate workouts.  BTW–ALL of these programs are available on BeachBody On Demand so you can stream them from home–perfect for squeezing in a workout during nap time!

So I’m going to think on it over the weekend and get my plan made.  I WILL NOT FAIL.  I will have a plan, I will stick to it. I will start on MONDAY July 10.  What would you accomplish if you knew you could not fail?  Would you join me?
